Clothing Comparison

A person  produced a firearm which was captured on CCTV under infrared (IR) light. FVS were tasked to determine whether the clothing worn by an offender and that recovered by police were one and the same.

As shown in the graphic, the same garment looks different depending on the type of light used. This result was compared against the offender’s jacket at the time of the offence. This and other recognition points (marked by arrows) supported the Police argument that they had recovered the offender’s jacket.  

This shows why scene visits and reconstructions are crucial for forensic imagery work - without this, the recovered jacket under normal light would have been compared to the offender’s under IR and this could have
